Who am I?

I am the founder of Greenspace Savannah. I also currently work in the SCAD-eLearning department as an instructional designer. My background is in biology and environmental sciences. For 18 years, I was involved in the field of natural healthcare. My specialty was herbal medicine and nutrition. I have been a longtime advocate of organic farming and consumption of local foods.

I was always involved in education in my healthcare days. I taught at colleges and also developed board-certified online continuing medical education courses. After a while, I was pretty involved in using Web-based resources in various ways. I still run a huge forum for Chinese herbal medicine professionals Its been around for nine years now and has over 1500 members in the group. I was also a pretty prolific blogger for a while (also in the healthcare arena). As a result of my interest in Internet technology and education, I decided to make a mid-life career change. So, I started a master's degree program in instructional design and technology (which I will complete this year).

Now, I spend my days developing online courses at SCAD and my nights honing my skills at using the Web to network with like-minded people

Since I have always been a bit of a geek and like to learn about and try out cutting-edge technologies, it seemed like a no-brainer to set up a social networking site focused on green issues. Well, it's actually been quite a challenge, but an exhilarating one. I know a little more about PHP scripting than I ever wanted to, that's for sure. But the site's coming together and I am pretty excited about it potential. If you are reading this, its because the system automatically made you my friend. If you made it this far, I am flattered. And if you don't care for someone presumptuously making you a friend, I won't be offended if you "unfriend" me. :-)

Todd, Thanks for the encouragement -- we had a huge turnout on Earth Day, including the mayor, Pete Liakakis, Helen Stone, Larry Stuber, and Pat Farrell. Many in the government are seeing bikes as a priority and I think we are poised to make significant gains. Hope you get your bike fixed -- the coop is open tomorrow (Tuesday).
