Sara Barczak

Who am I?

I oversee Southern Alliance for Clean Energy's coastal Georgia office in Savannah, which I opened in March 2000 after the former Georgians for Clean Energy (originally known as "Campaign for a Prosperous Georgia") hired me in October 1999.

As safe energy director, I provide support to concerned citizens and organizing partners, participates in legislative, state and federal regulatory forums on issues concerning nuclear energy, public safety, utilities and the negative impacts of power plants on the region's water quality. I participated in a U.S./Russian exchange with non-governmental organizations in Russia impacted by plutonium bomb fuel (MOX) programs, including travel to Russia.

I have worked for twelve years in diverse environmental fields in the private and non-profit sectors: as an environmental consultant for Department of Defense facilities relating to hazardous waste and air quality issues and as a citizen's advocate, educator and consultant for two non-profit organizations.

I received a B.A. in Biology from Lawrence University.

Folks should check out the article on Sara in the green issue of The South a few months back. We are all lucky to have her on our side.
